G.A.R. Post No. 63 Applications

About 400 original applications for membership in Post No. 63 containing anecdotes describing the applicant’s most memorable event in the Civil War.

Nearly 30 years ago, the Morse Institute Library received a gift of approximately 1,370 original documents/pages dating between 1866 and 1941 pertaining to the Grand Army Republic Post No. 63.  These documents are in remarkable condition and stored in archival-quality sleeves and boxes at the Morse Institute Library.

As part of the Library’s commitment to preserving the stories of service in our community, along with a grant from the Massachusetts State Historical Records Advisory Board, we were able to digitize the content for all to view. One of the few integrated G.A.R. Posts, these Post No. 63 documents are a wonderful resource for community members researching genealogy, ancestry and history.
