Emerson Stamps

U.S. Army 1943–1946

 

Emerson Stamps was born in Arkansas, the son of sharecroppers and the grandson of slaves. He joined the Army in 1943, after high school, and was trained to handle cargo. Assigned to the 241st Port Co., Stamps helped offload cargo during the Normandy invasion, and delivered supplies for General George S. Patton from France into Germany.
