U.S. Navy 1942–1948

John Patti was born and raised in Framingham. He joined the Navy in 1942 because he “didn’t want to dig foxholes.” He did three tours of duty in the Pacific Theater and left as an Engineman 1st Class. He was present during the Battle of Okinawa, and his ship was the first to land occupation troops in Japan.
