U.S. Navy 1941–1946

Jack Ellsworth enrolled at Marquette University and joined the Navy ROTC program just before the United States entered World War II. He received his commission as an ensign in 1944; after some training (including hand-to-hand combat), Ellsworth was assigned to a Landing Craft, Tank (LCT) and helped transport equipment to and from Normandy during and after the D-Day invasion. Ellsworth also speaks of his experiences afterward, including a problem with sleepwalking caused by battle fatigue, and what was done to cure it.
