U.S. Marine Corps 1943–1946

 

Discusses Cameron’s service in the United States Marine Corps in World War II, serving with the 15th Marines, the 6th Marines and the First Provisional Marine Brigade. After boot camp at Parris Island, SC, Cameron was assigned to Fort Hitchcock Naval Air Station, Texas, and then sent to New River, N.C., for more training on heavy-water-cooled machine guns. He was then sent to the South Pacific, with a stop at Guadalcanal. He talks about combat on Guam and the final battle of the war on Okinawa, learning about the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima, disarming Japanese in Tsingtao, China, and his return home.
