U.S. Army 1942–1946

Fascinated with flying, Maurice Rockett entered the Army Air Force in 1942 and after lengthy training he and his crew were shipped to England – he as the bombardier and 2nd Lt. with the 95th Bomb Group. From his first mission in the winter of 1943, Rockett encountered danger, death and different planes. Getting hit by the enemy was a common occurrence, but everything changed during his 27th mission. Rockett was hit while filling in for another bombardier. He recalls in great detail the green crews, electric suits, frostbite and the difficulty later in life in remembering the civilian lives that were lost.
