Roger Wonson was a student at Northeastern University when he decided to enlist in 1944. He joined the Army Air Force, and was trained in communications. He learned how to maintain all the components with radios, including transmitters and receivers. Wonson was commissioned a second lieutenant, and joined the 52nd Army Airways Communications Systems. He was stationed in several locations in the South, and was at Wichita Falls, Texas, preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended.
