U.S. Army 1943–1945

 

Paul Leahey grew up in Worcester and joined the US Army when he turned 18, before he graduated from high school. He trained as a rifleman and was assigned to the 28th Infantry, 112th Regiment. He took part in the battle of St. Lo, France, and was captured by the Germans during the Allied attack on Schmidt, Germany. Leahey spent six months as a POW in Germany and Poland before being liberated by American forces.
